Ducktail Hairstyle

The ducktail was a prevailant haircut style which was in fashion the 1950s. This amazing hairstyle was devised by Philadelphia barber Joe Cirella in the year 1940 and this style took off with fashion when it was worn by many a television, movie and musical stars. It was also know with some alternate names such as Duck's Butt, Duck's Ass, or just D.A. The actual name of this style was Duck's Ass which was given by Joe himself, but due to politeness it was then hailed with name Ducktail to be used in mixed company. A similar hairstyle is sometimes also known as Argentine Ducktail.

The duck tail hair style added to the term greasers to achieve this look, lots of hair grease was required to hold the hair in place. This was still the period of hair creams, so it only necessary an increase in the amount to make hair stay in the desired style.

Tips for ducktail hairstyle

  • The style necessary that the hair be combed back approximately the sides of the head. Used the, rattail comb was used to make a middle part at the backside of the head, similar to many, the back end of a duck. In adding, the hair on the top front of the head was intentionally disarrayed so that untidy strands hung down over the forehead.
  • The duck ass hairdo was naturally longer than the traditional short-back-and-sides of the normal fifties men's haircut, even though it is almost straight laced by contrast to today's fashion.
  • The hair at the nape was more often than not grown to at least 1to1-1/2 inches in length and would be combed back on each side near the middle back and then a tail comb was used to draw a parting line down the middle of the back of the head.
  • The hair products such as brylcreem and other thick, paste kind or you can use oil based pomades were used and then set, hair would grasp its style through a lot of mistreatment.
