How to get rid of Swimmers Ear?


Treating the Swimmers Ear

Swimmers Ear: is the bacterial or fungal infection in the outer ear canal. It's often brought on by water that remains in the ear after swimming, when too much water entered to ear and reach to the air drum. Swimmer's ear is different from a regular ear infection, but swimmer's ear happens when bacteria grow in the ear canal, which is a passageway to the eardrum. You don't usually get swimmer's ear from taking baths or you tug showers, bacteria get a chance to grow when water stays in the ear canal and it happen due to lot of swimming.

Not only water is the reason for swimmer ear but excessive cleaning of the ear canal with cotton swabs or anything and contact with certain chemicals such as hair spray or hair dye entered in the ear causes for swimmer ear.

Common symptoms of swimmers ear

  1. Ear pain is the most common sign of swimmer's ear.
  2. Itching inside the ear and redness of the outer and inner part of the ear.
  3. You may feel mild hearing loss.
  4. Get some Soft and white earwax and discharge of pus.

Apply anti septic ear drops

If you got swimmers ear you can purchase over the counter anti-septic ear drops. Put a few drops in your ear using a medicine dropper then shake your head to swish about the drops. Ear drops help kill bacteria or dry up excess water.

Home Remedies to get rid of Swimmers Ear

Boric acid and alcohol - Put some alcohol in a small container and pour a drop of boric acid. Mix them up and pour two to 3 drops of the substance on the cleaned ear and allow it to sink all the way to the canal. You are going to feel some coldness within your inner jaw; this solution should be applied inside the ear two times daily for 3 days to get rid faster.

Use Baby oil - Heat some baby oil (not too hot), and when it's aptly warmed, pour it in your ear. Put a cotton ball, to avoid draining the oil. This will help you to remove swimmers ear.

Fresh Garlic Juice and Water - Mix garlic juice with water and extract the pure liquid on a spoon and pour one drop inside the ear and keep your head bend for at least a minute and turn to the other side to do the same thing. The other method is take garlic cloves in some small quantity and soaks inside water for an hour. Pour the liquid for 2-3 times in a day.

Consult to your doctor - If swimmers ear pain and infection becomes Sevier then you should consult to your doctor without any delay.

Some Tips for Prevention

  1. After swimming stands on one foot and tilt your head in a way offending ear faces the ground. Hop on one foot until the water drains out.
  2. Wear ear plug or swimming cap.
  3. Swimming in a well chlorinated pool with a good pH balance.
