How to Get Rid of Rabbits?
Rabbits have adapted very well to urban environments. Most of the people have no aversion to these little cute animals. However, they can be very troublesome to gardeners and landscapers. Rabbits can cause serious damage to new plants and shrubs. They love eating young saplings, flowers, bulbs and an entire host of trees and shrubs. In fact, they can feed on anything nature provides to them.
To get rid of these sweet buggers, you can take the following measures.
Live Traps
Live traps are an efficient way of getting rid of rabbits. They are considered good, because using them we reduce the chances of other animals or children getting injured. These traps will not cost you a fortune, they are pretty cheap.
Kill Traps
It is one of the most effective ways of getting rid of rabbits. However, killing these little animals is an idea which is not liked by most of the animals. Also, there may be local laws which prevents rabbit killing. It has a disadvantage that it can kill other small curious animals. Also, killing rabbits, just because they are eating some of your vegetation, does not seem to be a humane idea.
Shooting
This is the most effective but again, not so humane idea of getting rid of rabbits. The local laws again need to be checked before trying this method. Also, some laws prohibit keeping firearms in urban areas.
Fungicides
If you want to adopt a non-lethal chemical method for the rabbit problem, you can try fungicides containing Thiram. Its application is very easy. Just spray it on the plant which you want to save from rabbits, and it will shoo away the rabbits. However, it is very toxic and can be applied only to ornamental plants.
Fencing
Fencing is another good option. Also, it is better to fence individual plants than to fence off the entire garden. It will also be very cost effective.
