Cluster headaches occur several times a day; they come on unexpectedly and are generally very painful. The pain is usually intense, and sometimes it feels on one side of the head. Frequently, sometime the sufferer also feels pain around the eyes.

The Headaches associated with tears, nasal congestion or stuffy nose, a puffy or droopy eyelid, and redness of the eye mean that the autonomic nerves are involved Cluster headache is one of these headache types. Regular pain medications may not do as well for these types of headaches as remedies more specific for them.

Know about symptoms of Cluster Headache

  • The most common reason that blood vessels in the brain narrow and expand rapidly and these changes cause the pain and chemicals in the brain are also the reason behind cluster headache.
  • High altitudes like trekking and air travel may also the reason.
  • Some medications do not suit to you, so this may be the reason.

Treatment of Cluster Headache

  1. Have Some Home Remedies - Exercise is best way: It helps you cope with the pain associated with cluster headache and also releases the body's natural painkillers. You can include a few simple exercises in your daily routine, such as brisk walking and don't overdo it.
  2. Milk Thistle: It is another commonly recommended herb found to be useful as a liver tonic. A sluggish or ailing liver can be underlying cause cluster headaches due to environmental and dietary toxins. Passiflora may also be beneficial because it calms the nerves and reduces the anxiety and restlessness associated with cluster headaches.
  3. Aromatherapy: Use essential oils and scents in the form of soap or candles. Aromas such as sandalwood, eucalyptus, peppermint and lavender are most effective against headaches. But you make sure that you are using a trusted aromatherapy brand.
  4. Water treatment: This is very simple. It's a glass of water every half hour or at least every hour during the day. If you wake in the middle of the night, drink another couple of glasses.

Doctor Recommended Treatment

Anti-inflammatory medicines: If you doctor recommend 2 to 3 weeks of anti-inflammatory medicines such as prednisone first starting with a high dose, and then slowly decreasing it.

Oxygen: Briefly inhaling 100 percent oxygen through a mask at a minimum rate of 7 liters a minute provides dramatic relief form cluster headache.

Sumatriptan injection: Sumatriptan given by injection just under the skin, is the commonly used treatment to abort a headache and it relieves pain within 15 minutes.
