How to get rid of Chlamydia? | How serious is Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease mostly affecting women and is caused by the Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria. The genital area is generally affected by the Chlamydia infection and if left untreated, it could lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease in about 40% victims. The infection could pass from the body of the mother to her child during birth and cause eye infection, conjunctivitis, pneumonia and in severe cases, even blindness.

If you contract Chlamydia, you could be exposed to the risk of ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus) and problems of the fallopian tube. Also, you would become five times more susceptible to HIV when exposed to it. Men infected with Chlamydia might undergo infections of the epididymis, rectum and urethra.

How to detect the symptoms of Chlamydia

Chlamydia is often referred as a silent disease since its symptoms remain latent for some time and when detected, could be easily confused with those of gonorrhea. In the first three weeks of exposure to Chlamydia, men may face burning sensations during urination along with a discharge from the urethra. Women also experience burning during urination, abdominal pain and a thin vaginal discharge.

What is the way out of Chlamydia?

If you want to be sure of your symptoms, visit a doctor to get yourself tested for Chlamydia. He might conduct a physical examination of the genitals and collect a sample of the genital cells for a culture of the bacteria. Afterwards, he might prescribe you some antibiotics that are effective against both Chlamydia and gonorrhea, these being similar types of STDs.

As a preventive measure of Chlamydia, you must refrain from polygamy at all costs. Your doctor might advise you to practice abstinence for some time to ensure quick recovery. Chlamydia is not difficult to get rid of but you must undertake an annual screening if you are a sexually active person.
