Expert Scalp Massage by Oil

Of course, good brushing keeps the hair alive and provides it lustre. But a regular hair massage is an essential part of hair care. A good massage provides:

•  Stimulation and increases blood circulation in 1calp muscles.

•  Removes dandruff flakes.

•  Relieves mental tension, if done on the sections and nape of neck.

•  Helps healthy growth of hair, if done near the temples and the sides of the scalp. It will not only stimulate the roots of the hair but will also keep facial muscles strong.

A 15-minute scalp massage twice in week or five-minute scalp massage plus brushing daily should be a regular hair programme. Our hair is a chain of molecules held together. It grows from a tiny cavity in the scalp called hair follicle and the base of each follicle is a network of blood vessels that supply nourishment i.e . oxygen and food to the hair root and carry away carbon dioxide and other metabolic waste materials. When the waste products accumulate in the tissues, the blood circulation becomes poor and cannot easily travel to the hair roots. Under such circumstances, the growth of hair becomes slow and sometimes in the absence of sufficient food, the existing hair may die.

For a hair massage, cotton, oil (olive, coconut, mustard, almond etc.), a small bowl, towel, comb, brush, heater for heating oil, neck strip and tail comb are required. The following steps ensure a good scalp massage:

1. Remove jewellery and brush the hair thoroughly.

2. Section the hair about half inch. Dip the cotton into oil and rub it all over the full length of each section of scalp.

3. Do scalp massage with five finger tips pressure. The fingers remain fixed to one part of the skin and pressure moves the scalp. Different scalp manipulations for scalp massage include Effleurage, Petrissage, Friction, Vibration and Hacking or Tapotement.

A rapid manipulation done with finger tips and palms. The massage can also be done with an electrical vibrator. It stimulates the nerves and relieves mental tension. The other benefits include increase in blood circulation, cures all disorders of the scalp, makes the hair and the scalp soft and supple. It gives shine and nutrition to the hair. Vibration movement helps stimulation of nerves and cures baldness.
