Dandruff Home Cure and Home remedies for Dandruff

Dandruff is the most common condition affecting the scalp. Skin is constantly renewing itself and dead cells from the scalp fall off as new cells form beneath them.

Everyone loses skin cells in this way, but with dandruff the whole process is faster, so a greater number of cells are shed. The cells are also shed in clumps that are big enough to be seen by the eye as dandruff flakes, particularly when they land on dark clothing. The scalp can also be itchy. The medical name for this condition is pityriasis capitis.

Many people think that flaking occurs because their scalp is too dry, and stop using shampoo because they believe it makes the condition worse. This is not true. The flaking occurs due to the increased turnover of skin cells. Dandruff is believed to be associated with an overgrowth of a fungus commonly found on the skin and scalp, called Pityrosporum ovale.

Solution for Dandruff

. Mix two tablespoons cosmetic vinegar and six tablespoons hot water. Dab solution with cotton wool into the scalp, parting the hair with a comb. Apply it at bed time before sleeping. Tie a scarf over the head to avoid staining the bed and clothes. Next morning wash the hair with a shampoo. After the hair is thoroughly rinsed, pour over as a last rinse a mixture of three tablespoons of cosmetic vinegar in a cup of hot water. This should be done twice a week.

. Hot oil therapy is another method to cure dandruff. Massage hot oil into the scalp at night. Next morning, an hour before taking bath, rub lemon juice mixed with cosmetic vinegar into the scalp with cotton wool. Give the hair a good wash with egg shampoo. As a last rinse, use lemon juice mixed to a cup of water. Continue this treatment for three months.

. Give the hair and scalp a hot steam bath. Massage with hot oil and wrap a hot damp towel on the head like a turban so that steam may fight dandruff.

. Mix 5 tablespoons of strong rosemary infusion with a pinch of borax and massage into the scalp daily.
